Lars Rönnblom is a Professor at Uppsala University. He holds a Ph.D. and MD from Uppsala University.
His work has been published in a number of leading academic journals, including Nature Genetics, Human Molecular Genetics, Arthritis & Rheumatism, PNAS and New England Journal of Medicine.
Lars Rönnbloms main area of interest is the connection between the type I interferon system and autoimmune disorders. He has established a SLE clinic in Uppsala and have made several key observations in SLE patients, and based on these observations formulated a new hypothesis concerning the etiopathogenesis of this disease. The research is translational and encompass identification of key genes within the type I interferon signaling pathways that associate to autoimmune disease susceptibility, explanation of possible mechanisms for the activation and regulation of the type I interferon system in systemic autoimmune diseases and finally, identification of possible therapeutic target molecules.
